Pondering about Tee Shirts ...

Was having a think the other day about tee shirts and it just popped into my head , What the hell would I wear most the time if Tee Shirts didn’t exist? Which then swiftly became when did we start wearing them? How? And what did we do before?!     Eres what I found out..

Tee shirt as a term was officially recorded in 1920.. Altho the army had been wearing them since 1913 ish ..

When first released the Tee shirt was sold solely as an undergarment.

By the 1930’s there were three main tee shirt manufactures’
haynes ,……fruit of the loom,………. And  sears & robuck

Printed Tee shirts didn’t arrive until 1942 ish   check the image of Life Mag  from. Altho most sources seem to say the first printed tee was for the Governor Thomas dewey’s campaign in New york 1948 … Printed ..Dew it with Dewey…. But that’s obviously bollox!

When Marlon Brando stared in .. “A street car named desire”  1951 wearing a white tee ..see the image.. sales rocketed to 180 million in a year!!
From then on everyone wore Tee’s, Virtually everybody. Even your Mum!!

Some other interesting facts I found out …

1960’s …. Started the political tee and probably at the same time the artist tee
1969…. Tie dye Tee’s … …. They had a good run in the 60’s they had to fuck        summin up !
1980’s…brought them stupid tees that change colour when you sweat! Hyper colour…  Rubbish!
1995 …. More than 1 billion tees were sold

Jordan 1 x Nike SB release....... On Its Way Release Sat 15th March Retail £110

“Originally crafted as a high-performance basketball shoe for budding star Michael Jordan, the Air Jordan I inadvertently brought innovation to skateboarding world. Celebrating this unforeseen answer to the needs of skaters, Nike SB and Jordan Brand collaborate to release the Nike SB x Air Jordan I. Multimedia artist Craig Stecyk brings his signature tribal visual identity to the design, taking cues from Northwest Passage, his art installation that prominently features bronze casting and spray paint.
The green-and black-upper features “AJ One SB” tonally scribed in a typeface designed by Stecyk that was originally featured in a leading skateboarding magazine in 1982. The same inscription also shows up on the insole. From the start, the Air Jordan I caused a stir among sneaker fans and basketball executives alike. Specifically when fines were imposed on Jordan for breaking uniform regulations after he wore the black and red editions during a game, the shoe's rebel image was confirmed.
The mid 1980s were a significant time for skating too — Vert was dominating, street was evolving and clothes were loud. Stecyk was on the scene to document it all.
Skating takes its toll on a shoe, and often punishes the wearer. The supportive ankle height and Nike Air cushioning of the Air Jordan I; the very things applied to help Jordan hit terra firma with immunity, were perfect for skateboarders needs. The premium leather was more durable than the baked rubber, canvas and suede of other models, and the Air Jordan I soon became a skate favorite. Fast forward to 2014: the Nike SB x Air Jordan partnership returns with a unique makeup created in collaboration with two icons of the industry who ushered in the shoe's adaptation — Craig Stecyk and Lance Mountain. As a hit skateboard video from 1987 gained popularity, images of Lance Mountain in the Air Jordan I took the world by storm. From that point on, the Air Jordan I became a part of skate history, and the fashion in which Mountain wore his sneakers was nothing short of iconic.”

Love a Good Tee Design ...   There too many logos out there at the Moment and it seems the more creative graphics have been pushed by the wayside. The Hundreds .... Spring 14 Range Now in store ......

The Hundreds is the world’s first social merchandising company. Now in its 10th year, the global brand is a 2-part lifestyle project that houses both a clothing line and online-magazine. Co-founded by Ben and Bobby Hundreds in 2003, both ends of The Hundreds incorporate our trademark attitude and personal perspective on street subculture, with an emphasis on people over product.

The Hundreds apparel is inspired by LOS ANGELES LIFESTYLE / CALIFORNIA CULTURE and Southern California’s skateboarding, surf, punk, and hip-hop cultures. The design is reminiscent of 1980s surf-culture t-shirts, independent skateboard company apparel of the 1990s, and the advent of “streetwear” at the end of the millennium. The line is comprised of graphic t-shirts, denim, wovens, fleece, outerwear, headwear, and accessories. In late 2008, The Hundreds also launched a shoe program monikored The Hundreds Footwear. And in 2009, The Hundreds’ optical program, The Hundreds Eyewear, debuted to the public.

Currently, The Hundreds is stocked in over 400 accounts in every major city of the world. This includes The Hundreds’ four flagship retail locations in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, The Hundreds store in San Francisco’s Union Square, The Hundreds New York in SoHo, and The Hundreds Santa Monica.

More than just an online magazine or clothing line, The Hundreds is a lifestyle project that remains personal and direct, reflective of the community and culture, and dedicated to its fanbase. The Hundreds is Huge.
